15Hatfields Showcase | We opened our doors to event planners
On Thursday 11 June, we opened the doors of 15Hatfields to clients, partners, suppliers, and new connections for an evening showcase. No floor plans. No capacity charts. Just the venue as it's meant to be experienced: full of conversation, moving at full pace, doing what it does on a real event day.
Showcases are useful for us in both directions. We get to show the space in motion, but we also get to stand in a room full of experienced planners and simply listen. What are they actually asking before they book? What are they comparing us against? What tips the decision one way or another?
Here's what came up again and again, and what it tells us about where venue decisions are really being made in 2026.
"How does it feel when the room is actually full?"
This is the question a website or a set of photos can never answer.
Planners don't just want square footage and seating charts. They want to know whether a space has energy without tipping into chaos, whether people can move through it naturally, and whether the atmosphere matches the tone they're trying to set.
By 7pm, the drinks were flowing, guests were working their way through canapés from Eden Caterers, and an electric violinist was giving the room real energy. Nobody was checking their phone by the door. Nobody was hovering near the entrance wondering what happens next. The room had simply filled up and settled into itself.
That's the thing about atmosphere: it's felt, not described. One guest can look through photos online and see nothing. The same guest can walk into a live room and know within thirty seconds whether it's right for their brief.
"Can this space flex, or am I forcing my event to fit it?"
Very few events are one thing end to end. A conference needs a drinks reception bolted on. A showcase needs presentation space and networking space and room for suppliers to work quietly in the background. An AGM needs formality, then a shift into something looser.
Planners aren't just asking "is the room big enough." They're asking something more basic: will this venue actually work for my event? Is there enough space? Do I like how it looks and feels? Can it handle the different parts of my day without things feeling cramped or awkward?
At 15Hatfields, that's the point of the layout: the spaces are built to move between formats without a hard reset in between. The brief shapes the room, not the other way around.
On the night, the lower ground floor rooms were set up so guests could walk through them as live spaces rather than empty rooms, with the 15Hatfields team on hand giving tours and talking through how each space could be used. It meant planners weren't just picturing the space from photos on a website. They were standing in the room, seeing it dressed and in use, with someone there to answer the "could this work for X" question on the spot.
"What does the first five minutes look like for my guests?"
Guest journey sounds like a small, operational detail. It isn't.
The first five minutes of an event set the tone for the other five hours. Where do people go when they walk in? Is it obvious? Is someone there to greet them, or are they left working it out for themselves? Can they find a drink before they've had to ask for one?
A good journey removes friction so completely that nobody notices it existed. That's exactly what showcase guests experienced on the night: arrival, welcome, movement into the room, and a natural drift toward food, drink and conversation, all without a single moment of "where do I go now?"
It's also, not coincidentally, the exact experience planners are trying to design for their own guests. Seeing it work in real time is worth more than any description of it.
"Who's actually going to be in the room with me on the day?"
Ask any experienced planner what makes or breaks an event, and most won't say the room. They'll say the team.
The showcase gave guests the chance to meet the people who run 15Hatfields day to day, not just see the spaces they manage. Confidence comes from knowing who's handling timings, who's managing the suppliers, who's watching the small things so the planner doesn't have to.
The team's role isn't to run the event for the organiser. It's to hold the operational detail (AV, timing, room turns, last-minute changes) so the organiser can stay focused on their guests instead of the clock.
That's not something you can pick up from a distance. You have to be in the room with them to really know it.
"What does sustainability actually look like here, not just what we say?"
Sustainability is no longer a line on a page. Planners are asking harder, more specific questions: how is food sourced, how is waste handled, what data exists, and will any of it hold up against their own organisation's reporting requirements?
